Trawlers Purpose: Trawlers are commonly used for large-scale fishing operations, particularly for deep-sea fish like Bluefin Tuna and Swordfish. Size: Between 40 to 100 meters (130 to 330 feet) in length. Configuration: Large deck space for hauling large nets. Trawl winches for handling heavy-duty fishing gear. Cold storage (refrigeration or freezing units) for preserving the catch at sea for extended periods. Fish processing area to clean and prepare fish immediately after capture. Living quarters for crew, as these vessels can be out at sea for weeks. 2. Longliners Purpose: Ideal for targeting high-value species like Tuna and Swordfish using baited lines. Size: Between 20 to 70 meters (65 to 230 feet). Configuration: Longline reels for deploying long lines with hundreds or thousands of baited hooks. Bait stations to handle and store large quantities of bait. Chilled or frozen storage to preserve the catch. Crew accommodations as longliners can spend significant time at sea. 3. Purse Seiners Purpose: Best for catching schools of pelagic fish such as Yellowfin Tuna. Size: Between 35 to 90 meters (115 to 295 feet). Configuration: Seine winches and davits to deploy and retrieve large nets. Sonar and radar equipment for detecting fish schools. Hydraulic systems for efficient net handling. Refrigeration systems to store large quantities of fish. 4. Gillnetters Purpose: Used for catching species like Rock Lobster and other demersal fish. Size: Between 15 to 30 meters (50 to 100 feet). Configuration: Gillnet reels to deploy gillnets. Deck space for sorting and cleaning fish. Storage compartments for short-term refrigeration or icing of fish. Smaller crew size compared to trawlers and longliners. 5. Factory Fishing Vessels (Mother Ships) Purpose: These large vessels serve as floating fish processing plants and are ideal for maximizing catch output and quality. Size: Over 100 meters (330 feet) in length. Configuration: On-board fish processing facilities (filleting, freezing, packaging). Cold storage rooms for massive quantities of catch. Equipment for freezing or processing fish immediately to maintain freshness. Cargo holds for transferring processed fish to export markets. 6. Support Vessels (Tenders and Transport Boats) Purpose: Smaller boats to assist the fleet by transporting supplies, fuel, and crew between shore and the fishing grounds. Size: 10 to 30 meters (33 to 100 feet). Configuration: Cargo hold for supplies. Fuel tanks for refueling the larger fishing vessels. Crew transfer area for shuttling workers between vessels and shore.
